Nafplio was the first capital of Greece after the Turkish occupation was ended.
It has many historical monuments. A Venician castle, Palamidi, a small island within the harbor, Bourtzi, and Akronafplia are some of the sites you can visit. There are many treasures to be seen in the folklore and the archaeological museums. There are also two Turkish tzamis and the church of Agios Spiridon where the governor of Greece Kapodistrias was murdered.
Ancient Epidavrus is famous for the ancient theater, which is only 8 km from modern Epidavrus. They both overlook the crystal clear waters of the sea.
There is also Mycenae with the ruins of the ancient city, the town Tolo with its beautiful beaches, also Porto Heli , Argos which is a great commercial center and the breathtaking castle of Palamidi. |
